Katie Twomley, MD, Opens Cardiology Practice

(Sept 1, 2010) Lexington Memorial Hospital welcomes Katie M. Twomley, MD, cardiologist, and her newly established practice, LexMedical Cardiology Associates. Dr. Twomley began seeing patients in early August in office space located in the upper level of 10 Medical Park Drive. The addition of Dr. Twomley to the LexMedical group furthers the commitment of Lexington Memorial Hospital and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (WFUBMC) to provide additional specialty services at Lexington in support of community need.

Dr. Twomley will focus on non-invasive cardiac procedures to be performed both in her office and at Lexington Memorial Hospital, making cardiac care more convenient and close to home. Non-invasive procedures will include pharmacologic and routine stress testing, nuclear stress tests, stress echocardiograms, surface echocardiograms, ECGs, Holter monitor application, cardiac event recording hook-up, inpatient consult service, and outpatient cardiac management. Dr. Twomley also has full access to the continuum of care provided at The Heart Center at Wake Forest Baptist when invasive cardiac procedures are needed. As an example of the efficiency and benefit of this important collaborative care between Lexington Memorial and WFUBMC, a patient reporting to the LMH Emergency Department in cardiac crisis can be evaluated in Lexington, then transferred for immediate access to The Heart Center’s catheterization service and undergoing a cardiac interventional procedure in 90 minutes or less.

Dr. Twomley completed her medical degree in 2003 at Duke University School of Medicine and an Internal Medicine residency at Duke in 2006. She completed the Cardiology Fellowship Training Program at WFUBMC this spring. She is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Twomley to Lexington Memorial.
